Monica Brown

I graduated from Iowa State University in 2018 with two B.S. in Genetics and Microbiology. My undergraduate research focused on evolutionary genetics of scallops and the development of switch proteins followed by the characterization of novel chemotherapeutics in GI cancers. After graduation I worked in the lab of Dr. Peter Dempsey at the University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus as a manager for the Organoid Core facility, mouse colony manager, and studied the role of histone modifications in regulating intestinal differentiation. In the Lau lab, I am interested in study cellular plasticity, especially within tuft cells, and hope to use a combination of in vivo and computational approaches. Outside of the lab, I enjoy hiking, playing piano, as well as science outreach in the community. Funded by NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
